Hindi is a language spoken in India, Pakistan, and Nepal. It is the official language of the Indian states of Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh and the National Capital Territory of Delhi. Hindi is also one of the 22 scheduled languages of the Republic of India.
There are two standardised registers of Hindi: Standard Hindi and Urdu. Hindi is written in the Devanagari script, while Urdu is written in a modified form of the Perso-Arabic script.
